Administrators are required to complete one hour of LGBT Cultural Competency in each renewal cycle unless they received this training as part of their initial ICTP course. This one hour course in LGBT competency is a brief overview of cultural issues pertaining to LGBT individuals. The course covers the many ways LGBT individuals are discriminated against including violence, insults and barriers to employment. The legal history of same sex marriage is reviewed including the Supreme Court decision legalizing same sex marriage in June of 2015. Health issues such as heart disease, fitness and mental illness for both LGBT men and women are examined. Students will learn the often confusing terms for for both sexual oriennation and gender identity for LGBT individuals .
